  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cans (28 ounces each) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cans (6 ounces each) tomato paste
  • 1 can (15 ounces) ricotta cheese
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons dried basil
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions; drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic, sauté until soft.
  4. Add the ground beef and pork; cook until browned.
  5. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper; simmer for 30 minutes.
  6. In a separate bowl, mix ricotta cheese with half of the Parmesan cheese and a pinch of salt.
  7. Layer the ingredients in a 9×13 inch baking dish: noodles, meat sauce, ricotta mixture, mozzarella, and repeat.
  8. Top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  9. Bake uncovered for 45 minutes or until bubbly and golden.
  10. Let it cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add red pepper flakes to the meat sauce.
  • Use fresh herbs for better flavor if available.
