Easy Festive Peppermint Swirl Holiday Treats

Ingredients

  • 1 cup crushed peppermint candies
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon food coloring (red and green)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until just combined.
  5. Divide the dough into two portions. Color one portion red and the other green with food coloring.
  6. Roll out each colored dough between two sheets of parchment paper. Layer them on top of each other and roll up tightly to form a log.
  7. Chill the log in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  8. Slice the log into rounds and place on a baking sheet.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges are just golden.
  10. Remove from oven and sprinkle crushed peppermint on top while still warm.

Notes

  • Make sure the dough is well chilled for clean slices.
  • This treat can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator.
