  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cans (15 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cans (6 ounces) tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 cups ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions, then drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef, sausage, onion, and garlic. Cook until the meat is browned and onions are translucent.
  4. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 30 minutes.
  5. In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, and half of the mozzarella cheese.
  6. Spread a layer of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish. Layer noodles over the meat sauce. Spread over a portion of the ricotta mixture, followed by a layer of mozzarella cheese. Repeat the layers, finishing with meat sauce and remaining mozzarella cheese on top.
  7. Top with grated Parmesan cheese.
  8. Bake for 45 minutes. Let cool for 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For added flavor, you can mix in some chopped fresh herbs like parsley or oregano.
  • Feel free to substitute the ground beef with ground turkey for a lighter option.
